Christa Bell

I am a writer, curator, performance artist, facilitator and multimedia conceptual and re-appropriation artist who cares deeply about creative methodologies and pathways to freedom through meditations on the body.

My work investigates and attempts to conceptually restore the sacredness of the bodies of Black womxn, and our children, within the Western canon of the divine.

I am a founding member and internal curator for the arts collective HOWDOYOUSAYYAMINAFRICAN? and co-interventionist of the viral essay, “The Problem With Beyhive Bottom Bitch Feminism”. My curatorial, visual, writing and performance work have been exhibited and/or presented at The Whitney Museum of American Art; The Every Woman Biennial; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; The Witte de Withe Center for Contemporary Art (Rotterdam); The Jacob Lawrence Gallery, TEDx Barnard, National Public Radio (NPR) and the Seattle Art Museum among many other universities, galleries, theaters and performance venues.

In addition to performing, curating and producing art, I facilitate restorative justice circles, create and facilitate earth and body-centered spaces for healing anti-Blackness and I create and facilitate healing and empowerment workshops and retreats for artists and womxn.
